The advantage of trading there is that you need not predict how the market will react to a given payroll number. The Employment Situation Report includes information about the unemployment rate, hours worked, hourly wage, and other factors.
Sometimes the stock market will see a report as "too hot" and worry that the Fed will resume interest rate increases. You can be correct on your forecast, but wrong on your market bet!
Similarly, the bond market usually rallies on weak numbers and sells off on strong numbers - but not always.
